Dogs and Cats Welcome

Both are welcome on board at no extra charge. A good number of Arturo's bookings go to dog owners who struggle to find a hire they trust. Bring them along.

What Most Hire Vans
Won't Tell You

Most campervans for hire are fleet vehicles. Bought in bulk, maintained to a standard, turned around between bookings. There's nothing wrong with that, but it does mean you won't always know what you're getting.

Darren hired a van once. No hot water, no working heating, not particularly clean. It's what made him realise how different Arturo is. Custom fitted to a high spec, with every detail chosen by someone who uses the van himself. Looked after to the same standard whether he's driving it to the Lakes or a hirer's heading for the Highlands.

Five years in, nothing has ever broken down. The heating has never failed. The van has never missed a booking for a mechanical reason. That's not luck. It's the difference between a van someone built for themselves and a van someone bought to rent.

How It Works

How to Book Arturo

Check the dates

Browse availability and pick the nights that work for you. Minimum 3 nights, maximum 30.

Book and pay your deposit

Book direct with a 50% deposit to hold your dates. The balance is due 45 days before your hire starts.

Come and pick him up

Head to Coxhoe, Durham at 3pm on your start date. Darren walks you through everything. Expect about 30 to 40 minutes to get properly familiar with the van. You're welcome to leave your car here.

Go wherever you're going

Arturo's yours. Darren's on WhatsApp if anything comes up.

Return and get your deposit back

Return by 11am on your last day with a full tank of diesel, a clean interior, and the toilet and waste tank emptied. Your £750 security deposit is returned within 7 days.

A 50% deposit holds your dates. The balance is due 45 days before you arrive. A refundable security deposit of £750 is paid separately by bank transfer and returned within 7 days of your trip ending.

FAQs

Common Questions About Hiring Arturo

Is the van pet friendly?

Yes. Dogs and cats are both welcome on board. This is one of the reasons a lot of people book directly rather than going through a larger operator, where pet policies are hit and miss.

What do I need to bring?

Bedding, unless you add the linen option (£30 per booking). You'll also need two forms of residential proof of address (less than 3 months old, from separate companies) and a photo ID driving licence. These are required by the insurers before the hire can start.

What are the age requirements for drivers?

All drivers must be between 25 and 75. Additional drivers can be included but must be registered in advance and present at pick-up.

What happens if something goes wrong on the road?

Darren is on WhatsApp throughout your hire. Arturo also comes with UK standard breakdown cover, so you're not on your own if anything happens mechanically.

Can I take it to a festival?

Not as a general rule. If you have something specific in mind, ask Darren before you book. It depends on the event.

Can I take it off-road or to the beach?

No. Arturo is for sealed roads only. Unsealed roads can be approved in writing by Darren in advance, but off-road, beach driving, and extended gravel roads are excluded under the hire terms.

When do I get my security deposit back?

Within 7 days of your return. A 48-hour inspection window applies after you bring the van back. Any deductions are notified by photo and email.
