From the moment you confirm your dates to the minute you drop the keys back, the process is straightforward. Darren walks you through everything at pick-up and is on WhatsApp throughout your hire. This page covers the practical details so there are no surprises on the day.

Allow 30 to 40 minutes on arrival. Darren walks you through every system in the van before you leave, so you know exactly how everything works.

Darren is on WhatsApp for the full duration of your hire. If anything comes up on the road, you're not on your own.

Before You Arrive

What to Bring on Pick-Up Day

Before the hire can start, Darren's insurers require the following from all drivers:

  • Two forms of proof of residential address, less than 3 months old and from separate companies
  • A photo ID driving licence (or a paper licence plus a valid passport if you don't have a photo licence)
  • Details of any additional drivers, who must also be present at pick-up

You'll also need to bring bedding, unless you've added the linen option to your booking (£30 per hire). Everything else you need for the trip is already on board.

Pick-Up and Return

Pick-Up, Return, and What Happens in Between

Pick-up is at 3pm at the Coxhoe address. Darren will meet you there and go through the van in full. Budget 30 to 40 minutes to get properly familiar with everything before you set off. You're welcome to leave your car at the address for the duration of your trip.

Return is by 11am on the last day of your hire. Before you bring Arturo back:

  • Fill the fuel tank with diesel (the van goes out full)
  • Leave the interior clean and tidy
  • Empty the toilet cassette
  • Empty the waste water tank
  • Do not wash the exterior — Darren handles that himself

Your security deposit of £750 is paid separately by bank transfer before the hire starts. It is returned within 7 days of your return, following a 48-hour inspection window. Any deductions are communicated by photo and email.

House Rules

The Rules That Keep the Van in Good Condition for Everyone

These conditions apply to every hire. They exist to keep Arturo in the condition every hirer deserves

No smoking inside the van

Sealed roads only — no off-road, beach driving, or extended gravel roads

Unsealed roads need written pre-approval from Darren before your hire starts

No towing

No festivals without prior discussion with Darren

All drivers must be aged between 25 and 75

Additional drivers must be registered in advance and be present at pick-up

Any damage must be reported immediately

You must note who, what, where, and when

If any engine warning lights appear, pull over immediately

Do not wash the exterior of the van

Late return charges apply

£50 for 30 to 60 minutes late, £100 for over 60 minutes late

Toilet cassette not emptied on return

£50 charge

Waste water tank not emptied on return

£20 charge

Interior returned unclean

£75 charge

Windscreen chip

Full windscreen replacement

Tyre damage is the hirer's responsibility

Overhead damage above 1.83m is not covered by insurance and is the hirer's responsibility

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations

If you need to cancel, the following applies:

  • Cancelled 6 or more weeks before your hire start date: full deposit refund, less a £50 admin fee
  • Cancelled 4 to 6 weeks before your hire start date: 50% of the total hire charge, less a £50 admin fee
  • Cancelled less than 4 weeks before your hire start date: the full hire charge is forfeited

Travel insurance is recommended and not included in the hire. It's worth checking your policy covers campervan hire before you book.

What time is pick-up and return?
Pick-up is at 3pm. Return is by 11am. If the van isn't going straight back out to another booking, Darren can sometimes be flexible — just ask before your hire starts.
Can I leave my car at the pick-up address?
Yes. You're welcome to leave your car at the Coxhoe address for the full duration of your hire.
What documents do I need to bring?
Two forms of proof of residential address, less than 3 months old and from two separate companies, plus a photo ID driving licence. If you have a paper licence rather than a photo one, bring your passport as well. All additional drivers must also bring the same ID and be present on pick-up day.
Can I add an additional driver?

When is the balance payment due?
A 50% deposit holds your dates. The remaining balance is due 45 days before your hire start date. The security deposit of £750 is paid separately by bank transfer before pick-up.
What if the van is damaged while I have it?
Report it immediately. Note who, what, where, and when. The insurance excess is £750, which is covered by your security deposit. Windscreen chips are £35 and full windscreen replacement is £180. Tyre damage and overhead damage above 1.83m are the hirer's responsibility and not covered by the insurance.
Do I need to clean the van before returning?
Leave the interior clean and tidy, empty the toilet cassette, and empty the waste water tank. Don't wash the exterior — Darren takes care of that. If the interior isn't returned clean, a £75 charge applies.
